History of Tzidkat Rashbi

Kupat Tzidkat Rashbi in memory of “Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai” was founded hundreds of years ago by the holy Sages who lived in Tzfat to collect funds from abroad to support the pious and holy people living in Tzfat (Safed) and the surrounding areas (Meron is approximately 8 kilometers from Tsfat).

The holiness of the city of Tsfat, where the gravesites of the Ari Hakadosh, Reb Yosef Caro, and Rabbi Shlomo Alkabetz, as well as many other renowned tzadikim are situated, is tightly interlocked with the holiness of the city of Miron were Reb Shimon Bar Yochai “Rashbi” and his son Rabbi Elazar are buried.

Residents of Tsfat and Meron today are a unique group of people who perpetuate the influence of past gedolim, leading lives sanctified with the study of Torah and Chesed. They are simple people like those who lived here two centuries ago; their lives revolve around the Torah and its laws. The spirit of superficiality currently breezing through our generation has passed them by, leaving a pure and untainted culture behind.

Though they may subsist on meager fare, food for the soul there is plenty, and their simple lives are sanctified by the dedicated performance of mitzvahs.

Tsfat is a city steeped in holiness in northern Eretz Yisroel, where ancient history has left its mark on the area, etching greatness and glory into each step and stairway.
